Whether you’re on the slopes, at the gym or out for a hike, individuals like to be comfortable when they are enjoying their favorite activity. Although sweat may be seen as an indication of exertion for some, for most the excess sweat is the leading cause of discomfort, rubbing blisters, wet clothes during cool down phases and also unwanted odors. What is more relevant to performance: The production of moisture on the skin to counteract overheating draws valuable energy from the body.

So how can sports and outdoor brands achieve this type of comfort level in their products? How can they reduce overheating and moisture to keep their customers in an ideal comfort zone and help them perform better?

THE PIONEER IN TEMPERATURE REGULATION

Outlast® technology adds proactive temperate regulation to shoes, active wear, or outdoor apparel. Originally developed for NASA, it utilizes phase-change materials (PCM). There are other companies that claim the benefits of temperature regulation through the use of materials that react to sweat, by wicking it away based e.g. on hollow fibers or fasts drying polyesters or topical wicking agents. Outlast® technology is different. It proactively reduces overheating before sweat occurs by absorbing, storing and releasing heat, depending on the environmental conditions.

The Outlast® cycle works permanently and repeatedly as individuals face varying influences and temperatures – the microclimate of the skin stays balanced and the absolute humidity is reduced significantly*

* Tests for various end uses in apparel, shoes, and helmets performed by C. Russ – netconsult, an independent testing lab in Munich/Germany (THG AreaView – SleepView). Further details can be requested via outlast.com
